In the case of Islam, the Quran, believed by Muslims to be the word of God as revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), offers profound insights into various aspects of the natural world. Surprisingly, among its spiritual and moral teachings, the Quran contains passages that resonate with modern scientific discoveries, reflecting a remarkable harmony between faith and reason.
In this article, from the many miraculous & scientific facts present in the Quran I'll share 5 explaining how they align with contemporary scientific understanding.

1. Formation of the Universe The Quran contains verses that describe the creation of the universe in a manner that aligns with modern scientific understanding. The verse is found in Surah Al-Anbiya (21:30):
أَوَلَمْ يَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ كَانَتَا رَتْقا ففَتَقْنَـٰهُمَا ۖ وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمَآءِ كل شَىْءٍ حَىٍّ ۖ أَفَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ ٣٠ Do the disbelievers not realize that the heavens and earth were ˹once˺ one mass then We split them apart? And We created from water every living thing. Will they not then believe?
This verse suggests a concept similar to the Big Bang theory, which proposes that the universe originated from a singular, extremely hot and dense point before expanding.
2. Development of the Embryo The Quran provides insights into the stages of embryonic development that were not understood during the time of its revelation. Surah Al-Mu’minun (23:12-14) describes the stages of human development in the womb:
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِن سُلَـٰلَةٍۢ من طِينٍۢ ١٢ And indeed, We created humankind from an extract of clay,
ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ نُطْفَةًۭ فِى قَرَارٍۢ مَّكِينٍۢ ١٣ then placed each ˹human˺ as a sperm-drop in a secure place,
ثُمَّ خَلَقْنَا ٱلنُّطْفَةَ عَلَقَةًۭ فَخَلَقْنَا ٱلْعَلَقة مُضْغَةًۭ فَخَلَقْنَا ٱلْمُضْغَةَ عِظَـٰمًۭا فكسونا ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ لَحْمًۭا ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَـٰه خَلْقا ءَاخرَ ۚ فَتَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقينَ ١٤ then We developed the drop into a clinging clot, then developed the clot into a lump ˹of flesh˺, then developed the lump into bones, then clothed the bones with flesh, then We brought it into being as a new creation. So Blessed is Allah, the Best of Creators.
This description mirrors the stages of embryonic development as understood by modern embryology, including the initial formation from a fertilized egg to the development of bones and flesh. The term "alaqah" refers to a leech-like clot, which accurately describes the appearance of the embryo at one stage of development.
3. Mountains as Pegs The Quran describes mountains as pegs or stakes that stabilize and anchor the Earth's crust. In Surah An-Naba (78:6-7):
أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَـٰدًۭا ٦ Have We not smoothed out the earth ˹like a bed˺,
وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًۭا ٧ and ˹made˺ the mountains as ˹its˺ pegs,
Mountains play a crucial role in maintaining the stability of the Earth's surface by preventing tectonic plates from shifting too much, which could lead to earthquakes and other geological phenomena. This Quranic description of mountains reflects an understanding of their geological significance that was not fully appreciated until modern scientific advancements.
4. Expansion of the Universe The Quran contains verses that allude to the expansion of the universe, which is a fundamental concept in modern cosmology. Surah Adh-Dhariyat (51:47):
وَٱلسَّمَآءَ بَنَيْنَـٰهَا بِأَيْي۟دٍۢ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعون ٤٧ We built the universe with ˹great˺ might, and We are certainly expanding ˹it˺.
